The problem is in the suspension. A softer front "independant" Chevy suspension will avoid "twisting" the frame, look at the front tire of the Chevy.... BURIED in the wheel well... The Ford frame is way heavier and in unbiased and stand alone testing doesn't twist anywhere near the amount of others...

Tractor trailer frames are designed to flex. Take the camber added to any flatbed trailer, for example. Metal is meant to deflect, which is fine as long as it doesn't exceed its elasticity and permanently deform. A steel spring will always bounce back if it never goes beyond its limit.

Why wouldn't they just put it where the real gas tank would go. Defeats the purpose of a bed

I drive a 2012 impala with 285,000.miles. I baby the hell out of her. I can only hope she makes it half as far. I dont have the time or money to maintain her like i want to but i do my best to keeo coolant and oil changed and other wear items and treat it like a soft tender woman.

A buddy of mine bought a new F150 back in 1999. It had that funny bump out on the back of the cab that actually hangs over the front of the box. Went on a trail one weekend and managed to get the cab to kiss the box when the frame flexed, Frame flex doesn't bother me but holy crap, Ford should have seen that one coming. All in all though, I feel Ford makes a good product.
